Excerpts

This chart shows the total population from 1990 to 2060. The colored areas represent different racial and ethnic demographic groups.

The total population of Vance County has declined slightly over the past fifteen years, but it is projected to remain steady for the next 35 years, as shown in this graph.

However, the race and ethnicity of the population has been shifting and is projected to continue to shift.

The next chart shows population by race and ethnic groups individually instead of additively.

This chart makes it easier to see the trends of the different racial and ethnic groups over time and to compare them.

Through 1980, population estimates were made only for White and Vlack residents. Very few members of other groups lived in Vance County. In 1990, the Census reported less than 300 Hispanic people living and less than 100 people in other racial and ethnic groups living in the county.

The population of non-Hispanic white residents has been dropping since 1990, and is project to continue to drop sharply.

The number of non-Hispanic African American residents in Vance County peaked in 2010 and has dropped slightly, but it is projected to grow slowly in the future.

The population of other racial and ethnic groups including Hispanic, Asian, Native American, Alaska Native, Native Hawaiian, Pacific Islander, and multi-racial people are projected to grow.

Still, we note that for many decades, both White and African American populations are projected to larger than other racial and ethnic groups.

This  map shows the partisan lean of Vance County based on the 2024 presidential election where the intensity of blue or red indicates the portion of voters who supported the Democrat or Republican candidate, respectively.

For the most part, Henderson leans Blue. However, the surrounding rural areas are moderate.

We note that in 2025, Vance County changed precinct lines. Previously, there were 12 precincts, and now there are 9.

In the end, it’s the elections that matter, and this table shows that Democrats have won all of the key races since 2018.

The numbers in the table are the margin between the winner and loser of each race, where blue indicates that the Democrat won and red indicates that the Republican won. The intensity of the color is proportionate to the margin.

This chart shows the Democratic Lean and 2024 voter turnout by precinct.

The Democratic Lean is generally higher in precincts where turnout was lower, and vice-versa.

We canvass to get out Democratic votes!
