Curtis McRae, Jr. is a lifelong Granville County resident and a dedicated public servant who has spent his career protecting communities and helping people succeed.

Born and raised in Granville County, Curtis is the son of Reverend Curtis McRae, Sr. and the late First Lady Gladys Lee McRae. He attended Granville County Public Schools and graduated from J.F. Webb High School in 1987. After high school, Curtis proudly served in the United States Marine Corps, earning an Honorable Discharge in 1995.

Following his military service, Curtis continued his education at Vance-Granville Community College, North Carolina Central University, and Ashford University. He went on to serve the public for 25 years in federal law enforcement with the Federal Bureau of Prisons, retiring after a distinguished career that included leadership roles as Associate Warden and Warden at the Federal Correctional Complex in Butner, North Carolina. His work also took him to facilities across the country and to headquarters in Washington, D.C., giving him firsthand experience working across agencies and with people from all backgrounds.

Throughout his career, Curtis focused on accountability, collaboration, and proactive solutions. He believes strong communities are built through smart public safety policies, transparency in law enforcement, and meaningful investment in young people. Curtis supports practical, multi-layered approaches to issues like school safety, community safety, and ensuring institutions serve the people they are meant to protect.

Curtis is deeply rooted in his faith and community. He is a member of Impact Church of Durham, where he serves as a Deacon and Sound Technician and participates in community outreach efforts. He is also a proud member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.

Curtis and his wife, Donna, are the proud parents of two daughters, Ashley and Taylor, and grandparents to their grandson, Troy and granddaughter, Kennedi. In his free time, Curtis enjoys coaching youth sports, writing and composing music, and traveling with his family.

Curtis McRae, Jr. is running for the North Carolina House because he believes public service should be about showing up, listening, and delivering real results for the community that raised him.

HD 32

NC House District 32 stretches across Granville and Vance Counties in the north-central Piedmont, a stretch of rural communities, small towns, and farmland that borders Virginia. The district is racially diverse — roughly split between white and Black residents — with a workforce rooted in manufacturing, agriculture, and public employment. It's a place where people know their neighbors, where the local school and the nearest hospital matter deeply, and where many families have called the same county home for generations.

The challenges here are real. Too many families are working hard but still struggling to get ahead, and too many young people feel they have to leave to find opportunity. Healthcare access, especially in rural areas, keeps people up at night. Schools need investment. Broadband is still a luxury in parts of the district, not a given. And while the region has quiet strengths — a strong community college, deep community ties, and a resilient agricultural base — there's a persistent sense that this part of North Carolina deserves more attention from Raleigh than it gets.
